Reading & Writing Workshop 8th Grade English Language Arts

Ext. 5197

Welcome!  My name is Mrs.  Jeanine Salgueiro. I am a Reading Specialist, with a focus on English/Language Arts, at Haverford Middle School and also a District-wide Department Chairperson K-12.  I am an alumnus of St. Joesph's University where I earned my undergraduate degree with Certification in Elementary Education and a master's degree with Reading Specialist K-12 Certification.  I was also fortunate to expand my educational career and attended Cabrini's graduate program where I earned a Certificate in Educational Leadership.  I also have complete graduate coursework through the University of Pennsylvania with a focus on Literacy.

My teaching experience spans from Montessori School through graduate school. I have taught in a local Montessori School, a Catholic School, Norristown Area School District, and Arcadia University. While in Norristown Area School District, I was honored by the school board and in Washington, D.C. for my work which resulted in being awarded the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award.  I am also an adjunct professor in local graduate programs for teachers and where I teach and promote 21st Century Learning through blended coursework which requires both face to face and online teaching.

I grew up in Narberth playing sports; soccer, basketball, softball, and track. Currently, I live in Havertown with my husband and three bilingual children.  My past coaching experience includes coaching Girls Basketball at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, Varsity Girls Soccer at Lower Merion High School, and Girls Soccer at Haverford Middle School. I am an advocate of experiences that highlight teamwork. A few of my other hobbies are Sailing, Spanish, cooking, baking, cake decorating, yoga, biking, laughing, and just enjoying being outdoors with my family and friends.

I am excited and happy to be a part of the wonderful HMS learning community. I have been teaching at HMS for over 16 years and truly do enjoy working with children. One of the most wonderful things about teaching is helping others to learn and grow.  A side benefit for me is definitely that I learn something every day too! I believe in a classroom atmosphere that is both caring and relaxing; a place where you won't even realize how much effort and work you are doing because everyone is so involved in their own learning that it just seems natural. I am passionate about teaching & learning and am happy to be a part of our great school.

Please feel welcome to stop by Mrs. S's Room (197). Visit me. Tell me something to give me a good belly laugh! Grab a book, sit on our bungee chairs or floor mats, and come relax in a place that welcomes all!

P.S. Please read something . . . every day... not because I said so . . . but just because . . .

"And, Yes . . . I am quick to laugh at your jokes."
