Tricky Numbers

  • Tricky Numbers
French numbers are combined numbers (sometimes added or multiplied)

For example:

dix-sept  10 + 7 = 17

dix-huit  10 + 8 = 18

dix-neuf  10 + 9 = 19

When you want to say 70 you say 60 + 10  or soixante-dix

Eighty is 4 x 20 or quatre-vingts

Ninety is 4 x 20 + 10  or quatre-vingt-dix

For the seventies 71,72,73,74 etc. you have to say 60 + 11 = 71 or soixante-onze,
72 = 60+12 or soixante-douze

For the nineties it is the same thing:  91 = 80 + 11 or quatre-vingt-onze,
92= 80 + 12 or quatre-vingt-douze

Confusing?  Well 100 is easy it's just cent!
