Meet Ms. Carney

  • Meet Ms. Carney

My name is Katie Carney and I will be teaching your child this school year. For high school, I attended Mount St. Joseph Academy in Flourtown, PA. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Then, I continued my education at Pitt where I completed my Master's degree in elementary education. This is my 20th year teaching at Manoa Elementary. I spent 18 years in fifth grade and will be starting my 2nd year as a third grade teacher. I am very excited to teach your children and be part of this very fine school district.

I grew up in Montgomery County, and I am one of seven children. I have one older sister, Suzy and four younger brothers, Bob, Michael, David, and JP. I have two adorable nieces, Christine & Willow, and two nephews, Patrick & Zac!! I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful, supportive family. My parents are amazing individuals. They own their own staffing and recruitment firm called The Carney Group. Their website is They make a commitment every day to find people part-time & full-time jobs.

I am a huge college football fan. I, of course, love my alma mater, Pitt. I have been a Notre Dame fan since I was a young child. Being that my brothers went to Penn State, I cheer on the Nittany Lions too. When it comes to my favorite sport, college basketball, I am a Pitt Panther Fan 100%!!

I love teaching and coming to work every day. The children are fabulous, and I learn from them too. I challenge and motivate each one of my students to his/her fullest potential. I will help each child develop his/her potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist your children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I want every child to feel successful in my classroom.

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was,
the sort of house I lived in or the kind of car I drove...
but the world may be different because I was important
in the life of a child."
