Objectives:  Assess Chapter 1-3 concepts (Chemistry and Measurements, Energy and Matter).  New Objective Cohorts A&D: Use the periodic table to identify the group and the period of an element, identify the element as a metal, a non-metal, or metalloid.

Activities:

3. Virtual Cohorts A & D: Metals, Nonmetals, and Metalloids Video Tutorial and Periodic Table Knowledge Check.

Friday

Objective: Use the periodic table to identify the group and the period of an element, identify the element as a metal, a non-metal, or metalloid.  Determine number of protons, neutrons, and electrons.  Calculate average atomic mass. 

Activities:

1.  QOD

2.  Due today at the end of class.  Read p. 106-111.  Add information to your notes about the periodic table that you wrote while watching the video.   Answer questions on p.111-112 evens #4.8-4.16 (odds are there to help you since you can look up the answers.  Submit the answers for the questions here after class.  

3. CW/HW due Monday 10/26 by 7am.  

Review Chapter 4 concepts.  p. 126 #4.49-4.58 (all questions) and answer the following: 

An element has the following natural abundances and isotopic masses: 90.92% abundance with 19.99 amu, 0.26% abundance with 20.99 amu, and 8.82% abundance with 21.99 amu. Calculate the average atomic mass of this element.  Show all work.

Scan or send photo.  Submit your work by 7am on Monday 10/26.
