December 27, 2019

Dear Haverford Middle School Family:

It is POTTER CUP time!!!  The Potter Cup is an annual spirit and athletic event between Haverford Middle School and Paxon Hollow Middle School.  We have been partnering with Paxon Hollow Middle School since 2004 to spend a day together filled with fun, school athletic events, activities, snacks, and helping others.  This year the Potter Cup will be held at Haverford High School on January 24, 2020.  Staff and students will leave Haverford Middle School at approximately 8:30 AM and walk to Haverford High School.  The Potter Cup will end at 2:35 PM, and students will be dismissed to their bus or walk home as they do on a typical school day.

We are excited to continue the tradition of using the event to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand.  The Potter Cup event has raised over $500,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand over the last sixteen years!  Please look for an email within the next week about more details and permission slip.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Horan
Principal

Exactly what is The Potter Cup?

Well, of course it is a prestigious trophy that is a cherished object at the Middle School, but what is it really all about? The Potter Cup was begun in way back in 2004, before many of our students were born. It is a friendly rivalry between Paxon Hollow Middle School in Marple School District and HMS.

First, the Potter Cup is a sporting event, three of our 8th grade teams; boys' basketball, girls' basketball, and the wrestling team, battle it out against the PHMS teams. The winner of two of the three events takes home the Cup. Simple enough.

But, the school spirit that is generate by this great matchup brings enormous energy to the dull January days. The spectators overflow the high school, cheering and playing games. Food is available, t-shirts, bandanas, the teachers perform a dance off and with all this fun a lot of money is raised.

The Potter Cup began just about the same time as Alex began her Lemonade Stand. Our students and staff wanted to do something to help Alex continue her dream of helping other children survive cancer. So, as the years have past, Paxon Hollow and HMS are proud to say that over a half a million dollars have been donated to Alex's Lemonade Stand on behalf of our students and families. The Potter Cup is mostly about children having fun and celebrating life!

Potter Cup 2019!

HMS brought home the Cup!

Last year, over $22,000.00 dollars was raised for Alex's Lemonade Stand!
Bringing the total to over half a MILLION dollars raised for Pediatric Cancer Research!

Thanks for a great year!
