Haverford Community,

1st Semester ended with Final Examinations. The students were focused, ready, and prepared for the end of the Semester. We look forward to a great start to the 2nd Semester on Monday!
-
Eagles Update-All Indications are that we will have school if the Eagles win the Superbowl and the Parade is during a weekday! We will definitely have school this Monday after the Eagles win on Sunday!
-
Also, NBC will be featuring a story about Nick Elizalde and how Jalen Hurts came to Nick’s school to have lunch with the football team and Nick’s friends. Nick was a former Haverford Middle School student who attended W. B. Saul High School that passed away this fall. The story will air on Sunday, 1/29, during Eagles Game Day Kickoff. The Eagles are another fine example of how great the support is in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Keystone Week #1 went well! Look for Keystone Week #2 in May! Thank you for handling all the schedule changes well. Check out the dance schedule below in your planning for the remainder of the year.
-
Please check out the remainder of the January schedule below. Dr. Martin Luther King, JR Day is this Monday. Here are five quick facts.
- King's Birth Name Was Michael, Not Martin. After his fathers trip to Germany, and learning about Martin Luther, his father changed his own and his son’s name.
- King Entered College At the Age of 15. He was such a gifted student that he skipped grades 9th and 12th before enrolling in 1944 at Morehouse College.
- He received his Doctorate in Systematic Theology after earning a divinity degree from Pennsylvania’s Crozer Theological Seminary, located in Chester, PA.
- When King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, at the time he was the youngest Peace Prize winner ever, at the age of 35.
- King was virtually unknown when he was named as spokesman for the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. There were concerns that some rivalries within the movement could present problems, and King was selected as a bipartisan leader.

The classes I visited this week were stellar! Our Concert was excellent! Our athletics teams are tearing up their perspective leagues! Some of our clubs went on field trips! The students are focused, engaged, and working well with one another. Encourage your student to have one more week of focus and determination before the winter break!
-
See The Counselor's Message below about PSAT results. The PSAT scale is from 320-1520. So, sometimes, students and parents think they scored lower than they did. The Fords did well! The more you practice, the better you will do! (I think Allen Iverson said that).
- 8th Grade Parent Visitation Night is Monday, December 19th. We are getting prepared for the Class of 2027! But first, we have to get ready for the beginning of 2023 for our Seniors! We started the Class of 2023 Section below. Just over six months until graduation.
- Concert season began this week! The Instrumental Concert was a huge success this past Wednesday! The Choral Concert is next Tuesday, the 20th, at 7 PM in The HHS Performing Arts Center. Jazz Bands will be on 1/18/23.
- Check out the Hockey Team's Stick it to Cancer fundraiser below. The fundraiser closes on Monday, the 19th.

- It was a week of highs and lows at HHS. We're looking forward to the Homecoming Dance this evening. The Homecoming Festivities, Athlete Signing Day, and Job Fair for 11th and 12th Graders were highlights of the week.
- Check Out Sign up for Sunday's Football Sign up Genius below. The Football team's service project benefits families of the Haverford Township School District. Each year's service projects are points of pride at HHS!
- Some very sad news: Our baseball Coach, Michael Essery, passed away this week. Coach Essery was a Havertown resident and well-known in the community. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. The baseball team has been a wonderful support to each other this week. We are very proud of how the community's outpouring of support.

3) HHS Parents…Let’s have a Blast!! HHS Blast Volunteer survey
Hi everyone! We spoke briefly about the Haverford Blast at Back to School Night last week. For those of you not able to attend and for the parents of underclassmen, the Blast is a post-prom party for all of our seniors and their guests. All seniors are welcome to come whether they attend the prom or not. What is the Blast? Well, in short, it’s a safe, but very fun experience for the kids that includes various activities, games, food, great prizes and some really amazing decorations! However, don’t take it from me. Watch this short video and hear about the Blast and its impact from the students themselves.
The Blast has been around for years and we want to keep it going for years to come. However, we need the help of all our parents, not just the seniors! If you’re thinking “I can’t help, I don’t know how to build anything” or “I’m not very creative, what will I do?”, trust me, we have a job for everyone! As you will come to see, we have jobs ranging from planning and construction to designing and chaperoning. We could even use some poker and black jack dealers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please complete the HHS Blast Volunteer survey by Monday, October 10th. Once we have our list of volunteers, we’ll hold an informational meeting at the school to provide additional details.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Anthony DeVice (Director-HHS Blast) at ant0219@comcast.net or 610-209-2543. Please consider helping out! Thank you!

The police are always at our games. We will have an increased Police presence this evening. We will have the 8th Grade Band at the game and Haverford Football Youth Cheer. So, we will bump the student section down a few feet. We are looking forward to a great night. Tonight is Senior Band Member Night at halftime.
Thank you!

Start of the School Year 09/02/22
Haverford Community,
- Schedules come out this evening! They will be sent to students and parents. They will have teacher names and room numbers. We can print you out a hard copy on the 1st day of school upon your arrival in the main office if you like a hard copy.
As per our course selection guide and process, we do not make schedule adjustments based on teacher requests or lunch requests. Our schedule is made to give students the courses they selected in the spring to the best of our ability. If there are any schedule changes or questions, students should stop into the counseling office on Tuesday, September 6th, or email their counselors. Counselors return on Tuesday. Also, if you would like to switch from a study hall to a class, please email your counselor.
- We start the first day of class with all students reporting to 1st Block and then a 34-minute extended homeroom after 1st Block. All students should arrive at HHS by 7:25 each day. All students must be in their class by 7:30 each day. The traffic is more congested on Mill Road between 7:15 and 7:45 daily than on the Schuylkill Expressway at rush hour!
- Lunches are always a worry for students and parents. We work to ensure all students have a seat at lunch and eat their lunch on Day 1. It does take time for everyone to find a seat. The teachers understand that students might come late to class after lunch if they need additional time to finish. Students have the flexibility to move seats from day to day. Students who want a quieter lunch can eat in the library with a pass that an adult will give them on the 1st Day in the cafeteria. There will be many adults to supervise lunch daily and assist students in finding a place to eat lunch. If your student texts you that there are no seats, please text the back to go see the nearest adult in the cafeteria.
