The Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates Career Readiness for all students K-12. Haverford High School students will meet Career Readiness requirements (13.1.11: Career Awareness and Preparation, 13.2.11: Career Acquisition, 13.3.11: Career Retention and Advancement and 13.4.11: Entrepreneurship) by completing the following in grades 9, 10 and 11.

Career Readiness Plan

Grade 9

Students will be introduced to Naviance, a college and career readiness program, through a PowerPoint presentation. Students will learn how to log into their personal Naviance account, navigate the program and locate the various resources under the Colleges, Careers, About Me and My Planner tabs. Following the presentation students will complete a short survey to demonstrate their understanding. (13.1.11D, 13.1.11G)

Students will complete the Career Cluster Finder assessment in Naviance. The Career Cluster Finder assessment will help students learn what career clusters may be a good match for them based on activities that interest them, personal qualities they possess and subjects they enjoy studying in school. Based on their answers, Naviance will display a list of the top career clusters that are likely to be a good match. (13.1.11A, 13.1.11B, 13.3.11A)

Grade 10

Students will complete the Career Interest Profiler assessment in Naviance. The Career Interest Profiler assessment will help students to discover the types of work activities and careers that match their interests. The Career Interest Profiler assessment has 180 questions about work activities related to a variety of different careers. Based on their answers, Naviance will display a list of careers, organized by level of education required, that are likely to be a good match. (13.1.11A, 13.1.11B, 13.1.11F)

Upon completion of the Career Interest Profiler assessment students will complete a short survey in Naviance to summarize their results and consider potential career paths. (13.1.11F, 13.3.11A)

Students will complete the Do What You Are assessment in Naviance. The Do What You Are® Self Discovery Personality Type assessment will generate a report that will provide students with important information about their personal characteristics. Students will also discover careers that match their personality type and personal strengths in an effort to further clarify their career options. (13.1.11A, 13.1.11B, 13.3.11A)

Grade 11

Students will complete the Career Key assessment in Naviance.  The Career Key assessment will help students to discover which Holland personality types they are most like, identify the careers that are most promising for them and learn detailed information about each one. Students will use assessment results to make high quality, informed decisions regarding careers. (13.1.11A, 13.1.11.B, 13.1.11F)

Students will complete a High School Reflection in Naviance. This reflection will provide students an opportunity to reflect on their high school career by reviewing their career portfolio (including their assessment results), their academic portfolio (9th – present) and answering various detailed questions in an effort to make a high quality, informed decision regarding their post high school plan. Students will participate in the Haverford High School College RoadTrip. Students will participate in an on-campus visit to a two year or four year post-secondary school. Students will be introduced to post secondary academia and learn about potential majors leading to career opportunities. (13.1.11D, 13.3.11G)

Upon completion of the College RoadTrip students will complete a short survey in Naviance to evaluate and summarize their experience. (13.1.11D, 13.3.11G)
