PA Career Readiness Plan - Haverford Township School District

The Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates Career Readiness for all students K-12. Haverford High School students will meet Career Readiness requirements (13.1.11: Career Awareness and Preparation, 13.2.11: Career Acquisition, 13.3.11: Career Retention and Advancement and 13.4.11: Entrepreneurship) by completing the following in grades 9, 10 and 11.

Career Readiness Plan

Grade 9

Students will be introduced to Naviance, a college and career readiness program, through a PowerPoint presentation. Students will learn how to log into their personal Naviance account, navigate the program and locate the various resources under the Colleges, Careers, About Me and My Planner tabs. Following the presentation students will complete a short survey to demonstrate their understanding. (13.1.11D, 13.1.11G) 9th Grade Naviance Presentation and Instructions

Students will complete the AchieveWorks Skills assessment in Naviance. The AchieveWorks Skills assessment will help students identify and develop their skills and connect their skills to careers that might interest them. Upon completion of the AchieveWorks Skills assessment students will complete a short survey summarizing their results and consider potential career paths. (13.1.11A, 13.1.11B, 13.3.11A) Instructions

Grade 10

Students will view a presentation to learn about career and technical programs offered through the Delaware County Technical School. These programs may allow students to gain technical skills that they can use for post-secondary plans or future work opportunities. Students will create a resume in Naviance. Students will have an opportunity to begin developing the following sections of their resume: objective, summary, work experience, education, volunteer services, extracurricular activities, awards, achievements, references, additional information, and leadership (13.2.11C, 13.2.11D, 13.3.11G) Resume Builder How-To video and Instructions

Grade 11

Students will participate in the Haverford High School College Road Trip. Students will participate in an on-campus visit to a two year or four year post-secondary school. Students will be introduced to post secondary academia and learn about potential majors leading to career opportunities. Upon completion of the College Road Trip students will complete a short survey in Naviance to evaluate and summarize this experience. (13.1.11D, 13.3.11G)

Students will attend the Senior Panel to learn from previous student experiences in the Post High School Planning process. Students will gain insight and further develop their individual plan based on new information acquired.
