DCIU Secondary Transition Fair, April 9, 2024, 5:30PM-7:30PM
Join us for an engaging open house event to support post-secondary transition planning for adolescents and young adults receiving special education services in Delaware County. Agencies and community organizations will be present to share information and resources about post-secondary education, independent living, and employment. This event will be an excellent opportunity for families and individuals to connect with service providers to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

Supporting Early Literacy at Home, Monday, April 8, 2024, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Via Zoom
Presenter: Jenn Shaw, Teaching and Learning Specialist
Taking part in literacy activities at home can develop your child's reading ability, comprehension, and language skills. This workshop will provide parents with fun and practical ideas to engage their child in early literacy activities such as rhyming, joint storytelling, and multisensory play. The targeted audience for this session is parents of 4–8-year-olds.

Strategies to Support Social Skills in Middle and High School Students, Tuesday, March 12, 2024 6:00-8:00 p.m. Via Zoom

Parents are fundamental contributors to the development of their child’s social/emotional growth. There are many challenges that parents face when supporting their adolescent child with social skill development. This parent workshop will provide parents with practical strategies for teaching their child new skills as well as ways to generalize those skills to new settings. The targeted audience of this session is for parents of secondary age children (middle and high school) with concerns about their child’s social skills. ** The content of this workshop is geared toward parents.

This workshop will explore the critical skills children need to plan, to start a task, to organize time, to remember instructions and to manage more than one task at a time. Executive functioning skills touch all parts of our lives, including activities at home and at school. This training aims to help participants better understand why executive functioning skills are important and provide strategies to help facilitate those skills at home.
** The content of this workshop is geared toward parents. There will be no Act 48 or continuing education credit offered if a professional chooses to attend this workshop.
