Welcome to HHS Art! I have been teaching at Haverford since September 2014. Prior to this job I was an artist, a substitute teacher in rural and suburban areas of Virginia, I taught college level painting and drawing courses to teens, and then taught Kindergarten-8th grade full time at a Philadelphia charter school. Now I enjoy my time at Haverford, and continue making my own art at my South Philly studio. It's been great sharing my love and experience for my subject matter with my students!
This year I am teaching AP Art, Art 1, and World Crafts. I am also the photography club sponsor. Photo club meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 2:30 in room 138....all are welcome to participate! Check out some awesome student work from my classes below! It's amazing to see what the students come up with :-). Please contact me with any questions.
AP Art: For students interested in AP art, you MUST have Art 1, and preferably Art 2 in order to take AP! I HIGHLY recommend that AP Art students take as many art electives as possible. These electives include: digital advertising, digital photography, ceramics, sculpture, world crafts, art history, animation, fashion design, painting, and printmaking. All of these wonderful courses can help you to build a better portfolio. In addition to "art" courses, I also recommend taking sewing, woodshop, or manufacturing to supplement your practice. AP students are required to take figure drawing/life-drawing classes outside of school, as this will help you with your college portfolio. Parents and students, feel free to email me and I can send you a list of extracurricular art classes for teens.
