Act 44 Parental and Employee Notification of Weapon Incidents

On November 6, 2025, Governor Shapiro signed Senate Bill 246 into law, which establishes mandatory notification requirements for incidents involving weapons on school property, school transportation, or at school-sponsored activities. This law takes effect on January 5, 2026. We

If an incident involving the possession of a weapon occurs at one of our schools, our notification to families and staff must:

  • Be sent within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Confirm that an incident involving a weapon occurred.
  • Not include any personally identifiable information about students involved.
  • Be sent via email in order to reach all families promptly.
  • Be sent to all schools on a shared campus

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We have always been committed to communicating with families about safety matters that affect our school community. This new law now establishes a formal requirement and timeline for notifications specifically related to weapon incidents.

Please note that our school's weapons policy and the prohibition against weapons on campus remain unchanged. We continue to maintain a safe learning environment for all students.
