Projects:  Many of the students have showed interest in completing projects and doing research to extend their learning.  We have come up with a "Project Choice Board" that students can refer to if they are interested in taking on the challenge of creating some sort of project/product to show their learning and understanding.  It is a chance for students to be creative, challenge themselves, and have fun!  Below I have attached the project choice board to give students ideas of what kind of products they can create. Students can choose to research a topic that we have learned in class even further, or they can use this opportunity to simply show their understanding of a topic learned in class. Students will earn 5 stars for each project/product they create.  *My one rule is that students get their project idea approved by me first before they begin to work on it.* They will have the opportunity to share what they created and what they researched during our morning meeting or closing meeting.

The Explorer's Club is an opportunity for students to push themselves academically and intellectually.  Challenging students to go above and beyond gives them the intrinsic belief that they can achieve more than is expected.  It gives them the enthusiasm to learn and gives them a true sense of accomplishment.

Here's how it works:

You are invited to research any challenge listed.  You may use the suggested websites or any other materials that are relevant to your research (books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.).
Once you have your answer, record it on the Explorer's Club WorksheetTo ensure quality, you are limited to turning in only one item per day.  You are more than welcome to try a challenge more than once if it was missed the first time.  Once you've mastered your first five items, your name will be added to the Explorer's Club Wall.  At the end of the year, the student with the most points will be listed on the Explorer's Wall of Fame!!!  You may work on these when your work is done or at home.

***A Note to Parents and Students***  I have made every attempt to make sure the links are kid-friendly.  However, remember the rules of safety on the Internet.  Be sure to monitor your child as they are on the Internet.  A good pop-up blocker and anti-virus software are highly recommended.  Never click on any advertisements on the Web pages.  Finally, always tell me if you see something that you think might be inappropriate.  Students MUST get permission to use the internet from an adult at home.  You must also get an adult's signature on your Explorer's sheet before turning it in.

Have fun learning and exploring!!
