Dr. Maureen Reusche, Superintendent of the School District of Haverford Township
Dear Haverford Families,
As mentioned in my Welcome Back to School video message on the website, this letter is to further explain some policy and regulation changes.
In June, we shared with you the Pennsylvania Department of Health new immunization requirements for the start of the 2017-18 school year. If we have not received verification that your child has received the required immunizations, you will receive or may have received a letter from our Pupil Services office. This letter contains important directions to ensure your child is not excluded from attending school.
Changes in legislation and/or school code required revisions to the District policies listed below. Please take the time to review these important documents which can be found on our website.
- Acceptable Use of the Internet, Computers and Network Resources Policy (815). The signature form will be sent to every student in the district and will need to be signed and returned to your school.
- The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act has strengthened the requirements for local school wellness policies required by the USDA. Please see our updated School Wellness Policy (246) and our Safe Foods List with the new Smart Snack requirements.
- The Attendance Policy (204) has been updated with accompanying Administrative regulations. Please remember that absence notes must be submitted to the school within 3 days.
Our Raptor Visitor Management System which allows us to track visitors in our buildings at all times underwent a software upgrade. Visitors will be required to have their valid state-issued ID scanned again this year.
The Transportation Department has notified families that due to increased enrollment and limited space on the school buses, the district can no longer provide transportation services to alternate stop locations. Example: Friends House.
I look forward to visiting with PTOs throughout the Fall at which time I will share our goals for the 2017-18 year and discuss these important district policy revisions.
I hope you found time this summer to connect or reconnect with friends, family, a good book or a favorite movie. As a district, we are looking forward to making connections and reconnecting with our students who will cross the thresholds into our classrooms next week.
We are eager to get the year started!Sincerely,Maureen Reusche, Ed.D.Superintendent of Schools
