Fine Arts:
The Eighth grade Fine Arts program is focused on Art from the 1800s to the present. It is an integrated program involving, sculpture, painting and drawing. as well as computer technology. The students will concentrate on several areas of study including, but not limited to the Human Figure, Proportion, Architecture and Three -dimensional spatial design. Gym / Health & P.E.: The Physical Education program incorporates several themes in a comprehensive, integrated program. The themes include Lifelong Physical Activity, Physical Fitness, Responsible Behaviors, Physical Skills Development and Movement Concepts. The program incorporates prescribed hands-on activities that are appropriate and adaptable for students in grades 6, 7 & 8. Science: The Eighth grade Science program reflects PA and National Standards in Science and Technology. Units studied include Active Physics (Sports), Matter, Dynamic Planet, and Our Genes Our Selves (SEPUP*).
The core or big ideas that students explore are - Principles of force and motion;
Structure, properties and interaction of matter & energy;
Earth features and processes that change earth and its resources;
Principles of heredity
Appropriate technology is integrated throughout each unit, such as laptops, internet resources, calculators, lab equipment, SMART boards, Weather Bug & PASCO probewear.
* SEPUP (The Science Education for Public Understanding Program) began in 1987 at The University of California - Berkeley as a not-for-profit project to develop hands-on materials and innovative science curricula for use in 6-12 education. Issue-oriented science forms the core of SEPUP's curriculum materials. Every unit uses personal and societal issues to provide thematic continuity for student investigations and observations.
MUSIC EIGHTH GRADE BAND: The Eighth
Grade Concert band is open to all students who currently play a band
instrument. The band meets in rehearsal on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 2nd
period. Students perform a winter and spring concert. The focus is on the
performance of repertoire that represents a variety of musical styles.
Students are required to perform at all public concerts SEVENTH & EIGHTH GRADE STRINGS: The Seventh Grade Strings is open to all students who currently
play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass). The group meets in
rehearsal three times per week. Students perform a winter and spring
concert. The focus is on the performance of repertoire that represents a
