The seventh grade art program focuses on the basic concepts of perspective and 2D and 3D design. Work on portraits will also be included. Through projects, students will discover the techniques of linear perspective and how to create a sense of deep space through the use of design elements. Students will build upon their knowledge of art elements from sixth grade and explore those principles of art with 2D and 3D projects. They will also learn basic techniques in creating a realistic portrait and portrayal of a face.

Gym / Health & P.E.:
The Physical Education program incorporates several themes in a comprehensive, integrated program. The themes include Lifelong Physical Activity, Physical Fitness, Responsible Behaviors, Physical Skills Development and Movement Concepts. The program incorporates prescribed hands-on activities that are appropriate and adaptable for students in grades 6, 7 & 8.


Social Studies:
 
The seventh grade Social Studies program focuses on the legacy of Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages.
 
The core or big ideas that students explore are -
 
ROME:
 
Cultures borrow, adapt and change ideas from other cultures;
Unequal distribution of wealth and resources can lead to civil war between classes;
Laws change as social classes gain/lose power
 
ANCIENT GREECE
Societies use citizenship to define roles and responsibilities;
The geography of a region affects how people live;
Lack of resources causes societies to expand and trade;
The culture of a society reflects its values
 
THE MIDDLE AGES
Chaos leads to conflict and changes in the social structure;
Because of differing religious ideas, religions are often persecuted
 
 
Science:
 
The seventh grade Science program reflects PA and National Standards in Science and Technology. Units studied include Space Science, Diversity of Living Things, Life Over Time, Ecology, and Waves, Sound & Light.
 
The core or big ideas that students explore are -
The study of the universe and earth's place in it;
Evolution, classification and population dynamics;
Ecosystems, biomes, interactions and human effects
Wave characteristics: sound and magnetic
 
Appropriate technology is integrated throughout each unit, such as laptops, internet resources, calculators, lab equipment, SMART boards, & PASCO probewear.

MUSIC

SEVENTH GRADE BAND:

The Seventh Grade Concert band is open to all students who currently play a band instrument. The band meets in rehearsal on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3rd period.  Students perform a winter and spring concert. The focus is on the performance of repertoire that represents a variety of musical styles.



SEVENTH & EIGHTH GRADE STRINGS:

The Seventh Grade Strings is open to all students who currently play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass). The group meets in rehearsal three times per week.  Students perform a winter and spring concert. The focus is on the performance of repertoire that represents a variety of musical styles.

 

SEVENTH GRADE CLASSROOM MUSIC:

The objective of the 7th Grade Classroom Music curriculum is to give the student a foundation in the history of music from the classical and modern era and to provide experience performing on electronic keyboards and other instruments.
