What is a “millage rate”?

A millage rate is the tax rate used to calculate local property taxes. The millage rate represents the amount per every $1,000.00 of a property’s assessed value. Millage rates are applied to the total taxable value of the property in order to arrive at the property tax amount. Each entity within Haverford Township (Delaware County, Haverford School District, and Haverford Township) sets its own millage rate.

• Requests are processed within the week they are received and emailed back.
• No verbal information or third party updates/verifications
• Updates are available for 30 days from the original request and will only be given to the original requester.

Notice of Property Tax Relief: your tax bill may include a tax reduction for your homestead property. If you are eligible, you have received tax relief through a homestead exclusion which has been provided by the Pennsylvania taxpayer relief act, a law passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly designed to reduce your property taxes. 

• If you currently qualify for the homestead exclusion, you will notice a line item on your bill showing that the amount of your taxable assessment is reduced. For the 2023-2024 tax year, your assessment will be reduced by 11,865 for a savings of $215.57.
• Applications for the homestead exclusion are provided by the Board of Assessment Office and mailed by the school district in the fall.
• Please e-mail Jill Bowers (bowersj@co.delaware.pa.us) from the Board of Assessment Office to start the application process. The application deadline is March 1^st each year.

• Once you receive your homestead applications, promptly return the application to the Board of Assessment.
• Completed applications can be mailed or delivered in person. Applications cannot be emailed or faxed.
• Once you are enrolled and approved for the homestead exclusion, you will not need to apply

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program supports homeowners and renters across Pennsylvania. This program provides a rebate ranging from $380 to $1,000 to eligible older adults and people with disabilities age 18 and older. This program is supported by funds from the Pennsylvania Lottery and gaming.
