Welcome to Chatham Park Elementary School

 **************************************

Dear Chatham Park Families,

Pennies For Patients is a fundraiser for children with Leukemia and Lymphoma.  It is the one fundraiser that Chatham has chosen to adopt.  We have been involved with this program since 2007.  All of the money collected goes to help with research and care of children who are afflicted with these diseases.  Last year we collected over $3,000.00 for this worthwhile cause.   This year we have raised our total to over $4,000.00.  We want to extend a special thank you to all the Chatham Park families that have been so generous in supporting this endeavor.

Sincerely,
Dan Marsella, Principal

3rd Grade Service Club

The Third Grade Service Club will be meeting on Wednesday, February 22nd. This month we will be collecting gently used children’s books for Carson Long Military Academy in New Bloomfield, PA. Carson Long is a school full of spirit and dedication, but they have little in the way of supplies. The school population is 40% international students, most of whom arrive with little English, so children’s books would be especially welcome for their ESL work.

We would like each child to bring in several new or gently used books to donate. The children will sort the books by theme and box them to ship to Carson Long Military Academy. Chapter and picture books would be greatly appreciated.

We will also begin discussion on our end of the year project. Our final project will be a multi-month endeavour. We are awaiting approval on a few ideas.

golden apple

The Golden Apple Program

The Golden Apple, Chatham Park’s annual reading incentive program,
has started.  Children who choose to participate in the program read books
to earn their pink, red, yellow, green and golden apples.  At the end of the school year,
the children who have read enough books to earn their golden apple are invited to
choose a book from Chatham’s library to recommend to future readers.
A name plate in the student’s honor is placed in the book they choose
acknowledging their Golden Apple achievement.

  • New Absence Excuse Form/Family Vacation Time Request

We have developed a New Absence Excuse Form to use when you child is sick, arriving late or leaving early.  The Pennsylvania Department of Education collects mandated data through an electronic reporting system called the Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS).  School attendance data will be reported electronically to the Department of Education. It is important that we report attendance accurately according to these new requirements.

A reminder that all family vacation time, where children will be taken out of school, must be approved by Mr. Marsella at least 10 days in advance.  When filling out the request form please make sure to indicate that there will be an educational component to the travel.  Mr. Marsella is only permitted to give approval for 5 consecutive days of absence.  Any time beyond that will be recorded as unexcused. Pre-arranged Absence/Vacation Form
