Great Things Are Happening at HMS!
!st Place Awarded to 8th Grade Students
We are very proud to announce that Ms. Still, Mr. Mahar and their advisory students WON the Philadelphia Zoo's "Unless Project" this year for 8th grade level!
Over 2,400 students participated in the Albert M. Greenfield Foundation UNLESS Contest, representing over 64 classes from the Delaware Valley and beyond. The winners were chosen by an esteemed Green Ribbon Judging Panel that included Robert W. Buchanan, Founder of Polar Bears International, Kathleen Grady, Director of Sustainability at Temple University, Irene Ho, PECO Energy, Dr. La'Toya Latney, University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine to name a few.
The overall purpose of this project was to engage our students in a meaninful way and encourage them to have an impact on their local communities as well as wildlife. We believe this mission was accomplished, and we are thrilled to have been awarded for our efforts. As a prize, we were given $2500 to, which we look forward to using in a fruitful way that contributes to the school as a whole. In addition to winning a cash prize, the Zoo also adopted a polar bear in Haverford Middle School's name, which the students were very excited about. Lastly, they gave us two books about Polar Bears, which we will contribute to our school library.
